Between June 6th and 8th, 22 Davenham Ramblers enjoyed a weekend away on the Yorkshire coast. The main walk on June 7th was arranged by Catherine Freeman and this was a walk of about 8 miles from Robin Hoods Bay and back to Whitby. This coastal path followed part of the Cleveland Way and was hilly and steep in some places but afforded wonderful views of the coast and surrounding countryside. The weather was sunny and pleasant for most of the day until the approach to Whitby Abbey high on the cliffs when there was a sudden downpour as if Dracula might come out to welcome us (but he didn't).
At the start of the weekend away, members met in a local pub after arriving separately and after the walk the Ramblers enjoyed a meal at a local restaurant.
Many thanks are due to Cath Freeman who planned and led the walk - and also to John Freeman who distributed the publicity beforehand and who also arranged an entertaining quiz on the Saturday evening.
