Walks and Events Programme for 2025
Cath Freeman is our walks co-ordinator (Phone number 01606 782892). Please notify her if you wish to arrange a walk or change the date that you have previously selected.
Jean Pritchett is responsible for publicising advanced information about the proposed walks on this website (telephone 01606 76055 or email zpritchett@aol.com).
Please note that in early 2024 the days of our mid-week evening walks were changed to alternate between Tuesday and Thursdays.
Walk leaders should send full information about the proposed walk to Cath and Jean for publication at least 3 weeks before the relevant date. It is also advisable for the walk leader to include personal contact details within the walk information so that prospective walkers can obtain more details from the leader or can contact the leader if there are any changes. John Freeman will also email details of the walk to individual members if there are last minute changes.
Sunday Walks. Car sharing for these walks is recommended as the walks are normally further afield and start at about 11 a.m. for a distance of between 5 and 10 miles or even more depending on the likely walking conditions and the degree of difficulty.
Mid Week Evening Walks. These walks start in the early evening and are closer to home.
Walking distance can be up to 6-7 miles or shorter depending on likely walking conditions and the hours of daylight. In 2024 we alternated walk evenings between Tuesdays and Thursdays but if a leader prefers a Wednesday, this will be OK.
Other Events and Activities. The End of Season Dinner will be held on Saturday 22nd November 2025 at the Antrobus Arms. Further details will be shown on the website nearer to the time.

This is the last evening walk of the 2025 season and is complementary to the longer day walk on August 3rd.
It is a walk of more than 3 miles across two golf courses and visiting Eaton village. There is one gentle incline and an abundance of nettles and thistles!
The walk will start at 6 45 p.m. from the car park behind the Rising Sun, High Street, Tarporley, CW6 0DX. Please follow the parking direction signs.
Sunday 17th August Location: Three Roman Bridges (Stamford Bridge/Tarvin). Leaders: Dave Ryder and Lynda Downton.
This is a walk of about 6.5 miles on relatively flat terrain with two or three stiles and kissing gates. Starting from the Stamford Bridge Inn we cross several fields into Tarvin and along its pretty High Street. The walk then takes us through the community wood on its outskirts before crossing over the main road and continuing to the Three Roman Bridges through Hockenhull nature reserve. The walk then continues on quiet lanes before arriving back at the Stamford Bridge Inn for refreshments..
Meet at 11 a.m. at the Stamford Bridge Inn, Tarvin Road, Chester CH3 7HN. Park at the far side of the car park
Sunday 31st August Location: Thursaston, Wirral. Leaders: Julie Farrow and Denise Davies.
This is an easy walk of about 5 miles through woods and fields with great views of the Dee Estuary. Walkers should bring a packed lunch or alternatively eat at the Irby Mill Inn where we will stop for refreshments.
Meet at 11 a.m. on the free car park just past the Cottage Loaf pub on Telegraph Road A54 CH61 0HJ.
Sunday 14th September Leaders: Mindy Hira and Jo Washington.
Sunday 28th September
Location: Teggs Nose and Macclesfield Forest. Leaders: Anne McTiernan and Sue France.
This is a fairly strenuous walk of about 7.5 miles with several asents/descents. Walking poles and boots are advisable as there are loose stones and some steep steps and it can be relatively slippy underfoot.
The walk will start at 10.15 for a prompt start at 10.30 a.m. Meet at the Tegg's Nose Country Park, main car park, Buxton Old Road, Macclesfield SK11 0AP. Car parking (and toilets) are at the Nose Cafe pay and display - costs £4 by cash or card for parking between 3-10 hours and you can also use the RingGo app.
We expect the walk to take about 5 hours including a stop for lunch and a toilet break at Trentabank where there is a great food/coffee van which gets busy at weekends, but walkers could bring their own packed lunch and plenty of water for the walk.
From Teggs Nose there are splended views over the Cheshire Plain including landmarks such as Jodrell Bank, Shuttlingsloe and the Welsh hills. We will also see historic tools and machines that tell the story of the area's 500 year history at the quarry where the famouns millstone grit was sourced. After lunch we will walk to the Forest Chapel that was built originally in 1673 and then rebuilt in 1834 and we will then ascend to Macclesfield Forest passing a ruined cottage with a touching memorial to Walter Bullock who once lived there but was a casualty of the First World War.
The walk will end with a final steady clumb uphill on Saddler's Way that is a cobbled track.
