Great Malvern and the Worcestershire Beacon - 29th-31st May
This walk from the door of The Abbey Hotel climbs to the highest point in the Malverns, the Worcestershire Beacon, and continues along the ridge before descending and returning along paths that contour around the lower slopes of the hills.
The first part of the walk is strenuous (there are many steps) but we will walk as fast as the slowest walkers and take several breaks - this is NOT a race! Once at the top, the views, all 360 deg, are truly stunning. Those energetic enough can climb the Beacon, but for those less so, or not inclined to, the views from the lower paths are equally impressive, so no-one loses out.
The walk is approximately 7 miles long but it can be easily extended for those who want to walk farther, although the weather conditions may dictate the length of the walk.
Walk starts at 10.30 am from the front door of The Abbey Hotel on Saturday, 30th May.
Sandwiches etc for lunch can be purchased from a couple of bakeries around the corner from The Abbey Hotel (approximately 5 minutes away on Church Street), as there is nowhere to stop for lunch on the walk.
Height gain is 1,360 ft.
OS maps Landranger 150
Approximate time 4 hours.
Walking poles are advisable.
